10th June 2002

It's June, the weather should be gorgeous and summery. It isn't. This shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone who has lived through a couple of English summers.

So what have I been up to in the last five days since my last journal entry? The answer unsurprisingly is not that much really. On Wednesday evening I played badminton, but don't really remember much about it. I remember that there were seven of us, we didn't get to play long and that I enjoyed it.

During the lunchtimes during the week I have been going to the pub with a co-worker to watch the second half of various world cup games. It has been a lot of fun to do something different at lunchtime and to actually use the lunch hour I'm given for anything other than sitting at my desk or sitting by the river. The World cup is being held in Japan and South Korea this year, which means all the games are morning ones and either occur whilst I am on my way to work, whilst I am at work or whilst I am sleeping.

The biggest game of the World Cup group matches was England v Argentina that took place last Friday lunchtime. We were allowed out of the office to watch the entire game at the pub. Something I wasn't expecting and was quite happy to be allowed to do.

Thursday and Friday evenings saw me go to bed rather early and not do very much. My parents who had been away in the Channel Islands during the week returned on Saturday. It was strange, it never really felt like they were away to be honest. I discovered that my brother had drunk the champagne I was saving, which annoyed me.

Saturday evening I went to Brentwood with Del and Jo and Andy to celebrate Jason's birthday at O'Neil's bar. This was fun, the music was nice, the beer wasn't too expensive and there was a nice mixture of music being played. We had Chinese at Jason's flat before I went home and Jason and Andy went to watch the Lennox Lewis v Mike Tyson boxing match, which was due to start at about 4am. I was far too tired for this.

Sunday was quite quiet. I watched Japan beat Russia in a world cup match before wasting most of the day watching the TV and several DVDs. In the evening I played badminton with Rob, Del and Andy and wore myself out quite nicely.

And so today is once again Monday. I will be quite happy when it is over to be honest as I have no use for it. It is probably a bad thing to wish your life away but who doesn't live for the weekend?
